The Federal Road Safety Corps has trained its officers to use accident videos and photographs effectively to educate and reform traffic offenders.

The acting commander of the Gbongan unit command, Jude Odinfono, disclosed this in Gbongan, Osun, on Wednesday.

According to him, enforcement alone is insufficient to achieve lasting compliance with traffic regulations.

Mr Odinfono explained that integrating education into enforcement strategies would give offenders a better understanding of the real-life consequences of traffic violations.

He added that officers were guided on how to relate visual evidence to common traffic violations, such as speeding, dangerous overtaking, and distracted driving.

The commander said the sessions were delivered in English, Yoruba, Hausa, and Igbo Languages to ensure effective communication across diverse audiences, including officers, offenders, and other stakeholders.

“The multilingual approach is aimed at enhancing understanding and emotional impact, especially among offenders who are more responsive in their native languages.

“Participants are trained to maintain professionalism, empathy, and ethical conduct while interacting with offenders,” Mr Odinfono said.

Mr Odinfono explained that the initiative was designed to encourage responsible driving habits and reduce repeat offences. He described the reintroduction of accident video viewing before the release of confiscated documents as the best way to improve compliance with traffic rules and strengthen motorists’ road safety awareness.

Mr Odinfono reaffirmed the corps’ commitment to safer roads through innovative strategies and combined enforcement with public education.
