Sat Guru Maharaji’s worshippers arraigned over alleged disorder
Four men were on Thursday, arraigned before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly causing disorder at the Faith and Miracle International Church, on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The defendants Timilehin Orumor, 40, Jimoh Ogunjerimi, 29, Ojo Ajayi, 34, and Omokenke Akinbami, 40, were charged on five-count of conspiracy, preventing, disturbing and conduct likely to cause breach of peace.
The defendants , however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Akeem Akinloye, alleged that the defendants conspired together to commit the offence.
Mr Akinloye alleged that the defendants who are members of Sat Guru Mahara Ji sect on April 6, at about 8.30p.m prevented one Pastor Chinedu Osadebe from officiating in his church and unlawfully disturbed their worship.
He alleged that the defendants burned dried pepper in a burner and released the smoke towards worshippers without lawful ramification, so as to make it damaging to the health of members of the Faith and Miracle International Church.
Mr Akinloye alleged that the defendants also conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace.
He said the offence was committed at Faith and Miracle International Church, Aladorin Village, Odo – Ona kekere, along Lagos/Ibadan Expressway, Ibadan.
Mr Akinloye said the offence contravened the provision of Section 205, 206, 247(a), 249 (d) and 517 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000.
Defence Counsels, Messrs T. A. Bosimo and K. A. Ayodele asked for defendants bail on liberal terms.
The Chief Magistrate, Olabisi Ogunkanmi, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N750, 000 each with two sureties each in like sum.
Ms Ogunkanmi said one of the sureties must be a landed property owner while the second sureties must be blood relative to each of the defendant.
She adjourned the matter until June 30, for hearing.
