The Jigawa government on Wednesday said it has sponsored 210 students to the Republic of Sudan to study medicine.

The deputy governor, Umar Namadi, made this known when the president of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, Mustapha Isah, and members of the standing committee paid him a courtesy visit.

Mr Namadi said the sponsorship aims to bridge the existing gap of manpower in the health sector for effective service delivery.

He said the students are expected to work in their various localities for a stipulated time after graduation.

“The state government plans to deploy at least one medical doctor to each health facility in all the rural communities.

“One of the cardinal principles of the government is to ensure the provision of efficient health service delivery in the state.

“In fulfilment of the set principles, the state government embarked on establishing more than 200 Primary Health Care facilities across the political wards in the state,” he said.

Mr Namadi also announced that certain measures had been taken by the state government to enhance its educational system by equipping schools and improving the performance of students.

“The state government has done a lot in the area of road infrastructure. Jigawa is among the best states in terms of road infrastructure in the country,” he said.

Mr Namadi also spoke about the state government’s achievements in the area of the provision of water, equipment and infrastructure in the agricultural sector.
