Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has confirmed that big summer signing Kai Havertz has tested positive for Covid-19, according to a tweet on Chelsea FC official handle on Wednesday night.

The German playmaker will consequently miss tonight’s UEFA Champions League encounter against French side Rennes.

Suspicions were rife on Tuesday as the former Bayer Leverkusen man who has become an undroppable fixture in Lampard’s starting eleven since his £72 million summer move was conspicuously missing in training.

Lampard said the player is now undergoing a period of self-isolation. It is expected that he will be out of the squad for at least a period of two weeks.

Chelsea fans would be relieved by the fact that most of the player’s time out  in isolation would be covered by the next international break.
