Real Sociedad beat Atletico Madrid on penalties to clinch Copa del Rey title

Real Sociedad beat Atletico Madrid on penalties to win the Copa del Rey title, lifting it for the third time in the club’s history.
Real Sociedad took the lead just 14 seconds into the game with a goal from Ander Barrenetxea off an effort from Gonçalo Guedes.
Ademola Lookman equalised with a brilliant strike, assisted by Antoine Griezmann, and right before half-time Mikel Oyarzabal scored from the penalty spot after a challenge by Juan Musso.
Atleti levelled the game at 2-2 with a brilliant effort from Julián Álvarez, scoring from 18 yards out into the top corner to push the game to extra time.
The extra 30 minutes failed to produce more goals, pushing the game to penalties.
Atletico also failed to convert their first two penalty kicks through Alexander Sørloth and Álvarez, as Sociedad’s keeper Unai Marrero stepped up, making two brilliant saves.
The trophy ends Real Sociedad’s six-year drought, and for the club’s manager Pellegrino Matarazzo, he becomes the first U.S.-born coach to win a trophy in Europe’s top five leagues.
