The Zamfara State Government has embarked on major educational reforms to ensure effective implementation of state of emergency in the education sector of the state.

The acting Commissioner, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Abdulmalik Gajam, stated this in Gusau on Sunday at the steering committee meeting on the state of emergency in the education sector in the state.

The state governor, Dauda Lawal, declared a state of emergency in the education sector of the state in 2023.

Mr Lawal also recently approved the constitution of a steering committee on the education emergency in the state under the chairmanship of the commissioner to translate the 2023 declaration of state of emergency on education in the state.

The committee comprises representatives from all the education stakeholders in the state.

Mr Gajam said Mr Lawal had approved a series of far-reaching policy measures and strategic interventions aimed at fully operationalising the state of emergency on education.

“This landmark approval follows the submission of comprehensive memoranda from the ministry of education, science and technology outlining urgent reforms required to reposition the education sector for efficiency, equity, and sustainable development.

“The committee is mandated to operate under clearly defined terms of reference structured around five thematic pillars, including school security, access, and students’ welfare, infrastructure and institutional development.

“Other pillars include teacher capacity and welfare, governance and data management, curriculum, equity, and specialised education. This approval provides, for the first time, a unified governance structure to translate the 2023 declaration into measurable and time-bound outcomes,” he said.

Mr Gajam described the development as a turning point in the history of education in Zamfara State.

“This is a decisive step toward restoring public confidence and securing the future of over half a million learners across the state. This development represents a bold and decisive step toward restoring public confidence and securing the future of over half a million learners across the state.

“These approvals mark the transition from policy declaration to full-scale implementation. We now have the governance structure, the operational framework, and the political will to rescue, rebuild, and reposition education in our dear state,” Mr Gajam said.

According to him, the state government will be focusing on rapid execution, transparency, and measurable impact across all levels of education.

The acting commissioner reiterated the state government’s commitment to delivering inclusive, safe, and quality education for all citizens.
