Imo governor hails mothers as Catholics celebrate Mother’s Day

Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has hailed Catholic women on this year’s Mother’s Day celebration, describing mothers as the “foundation of peace and progress in our homes and society at large.”
Mr Uzodimma made the remark in his message to Catholic Women Organisation (CWO) of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Parish, Ozuh Omuma, Oru East Local Government Area of the state on Sunday.
He stated, “Mothers are everything. If you want peace in your house, the mothers must be respected.”
He advocated greater respect for women, noting that good wives are difficult to come by.
The governor stated that he built the St. Rose of Lima Parish Church in 2002 in memory of his late mother, Ezinne Nneoma Rose Uzodimma, adding, “whose values shaped me. Her kindness will continue to resonate.”
He congratulated Nigerian women and thanked Imo residents for sustaining the peace and stability in the state.
In a brief remark, the governor’s wife, Chioma Uzodimma, applauded mothers for their vital role in shaping families and strengthening their faith.
She described motherhood as a “divine calling,” saying that “mothers are God’s precious instruments, nurturing lives and shaping character across generations.”
She urged mothers to remain steadfast in prayer and moral guidance.
Mrs Uzodimma encouraged them to continue to support their families and communities through love, faith, and dedication.
Earlier in a homily, Rev. Fr. Augustine Agoawuike, urged Christians to overcome fear and societal barriers.
Mr Agoawuike urged the faithful to draw inspiration from Jesus’ resurrection and the example of Mary, Mother of Jesus.
“Christ breaks through the barriers of fear and doubt and commissions us to be His witnesses of peace,” the cleric said.
He described the celebration as a “day of joy, sacrifice and gratitude,” urging families to appreciate mothers, wives and daughters.
The clergyman, who emphasised that mothers remain pillars of faith and society, called on believers to honour their sacrifices and strengthen unity within the church.
Highlights of the event included the decoration of the governor’s wife with the title of the “Queen Mother of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Parish,” Ozuh Omuma by the CWO.
