A Kaduna-based man, Abdulmalik Abubakar, has filed a suit at an Upper Customary Court on Daura Road, seeking to dissolve his marriage to Nafisat Haruna under the Kaba marriage custom.

The petitioner, who appeared in court on Monday, further sought custody of their child.

Ms Haruna, who spoke through her counsel, B.A. Damshaka said that both parties had agreed to dissolve the marriage.

Mr Damshaka told the court that efforts were ongoing to settle the issue of the child’s custody and prayed for time to report the progress made.

The judge, Patience Musa, adjourned the matter until May 11 for a report of settlement.

Kaba marriage is a traditional marriage practice found in parts of northern Nigeria.
