Coventry City win EFL Championship title as Leicester City relegated

Ten years after the surprising 2016 Premier League triumph, Leicester City have been relegated from the EFL Championship to the EFL League One, the third tier of English football.
Leicester City’s fate was confirmed on Tuesday night following a 2-2 draw against Hull City in their match day 44 tie, leaving the Foxes seven points away from survival with two games remaining.
Jordan James and Luke Thomas scored Leicester City’s goals in the game, while Liam Millar and Ryan Giles were on the scoresheet for the visitors.
The Foxes stunned the football community when they unexpectedly won the Premier League title in the 2015/16 season and went on to enjoy relative success a few years later, including winning the FA Cup during the 2020/21 season.
Leicester City still played in the Premier League last season but were relegated at the end of the campaign. They have now further dropped down the football pyramid one season later.
Meanwhile, in the opposite direction, Coventry City have clinched the Championship title following a dominant 5-1 win over Portsmouth.
Frank Lampard’s side had already secured promotion to the Premier League for the first time in 25 years last week and only needed the win to confirm their status as the champions.
Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka featured in the game for Coventry as goals by Haji Wright, Ephron Mason-Clark (double), Regan Poole (own goal), and Kaine Kesler-Hayden secured the victory for the Sky Blues.
Adrian Segecic scored the consolation goal for Portsmouth in the encounter.
