Manchester City edge Burnley 1-0 to move above Arsenal on goal difference

Manchester City moved to top of the Premier League table following a narrow 1-0 win over Burnley at the Turf Moor Park on Wednesday night.
The result also means that Burnley have officially relegated from the top flight division to the EFL Championship with four matches left to be played this season.
A first-half goal by Erling Haaland was all that Pep Guardiola’s side needed to secure the important three points.
Both teams had several chances to find the back of the net afterwards but failed to capitalise on them and kept each other at bay for the remainder of the game.
Despite being on the same points and goals difference, Man City currently ranked higher than Arsenal on the table for scoring more goals.
“Winning is the main target. We made an extraordinary game, except the first-half where we defended not good two actions in-behind. The line was not correct,” Guardiola said after the game.
“The second-half in general was good. Just wow, the chances we created we could’ve scored more goals. But the important thing is winning every game.”
Speaking further, the former Barcelona manager also extended sympathy to Liam Rosenior while answering questions about his dismissal by Chelsea as head coach earlier on Wednesday.
“I’m so sorry. I’m pretty sure he’s a manager for that level. Always when this happens, always I think about how lucky, again, I am being in the club where I am.
“I picked the right club 10 years ago, with an incredible hierarchy, incredible CEOs and sporting directors. Unbelievable. The consistency, the trust with the people I’m working with here, it’s amazing. I’m so lucky,” he stated.
