Pro-Barau Jibrin group opposes alleged plot to block re-election bid

The Kano State Coalition for Good Governance has advocated for Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin’s continued representation in the National Assembly.
The chairman of the coalition, Mukhar Tukur-Gadanya, who made the call at a press conference on Wednesday in Kano, disclosed that the group was aware of plans to thwart Jibrin’s re-election.
Mr Tukur-Gadanya alleged that some disgruntled elements were plotting to truncate Jibrin’s re-election bid.
According to him, people in the Kano North senatorial district were firmly behind the 2027 re-election bid of the lawmaker and would ensure it succeeded.
Mr Tukur-Gadanya said the senator had distinguished himself through his performances and his good representation of the people of his constituency.
“Senator Barau has transformed legislative representation to people-oriented laws, impactful empowerment programmes and numerous infrastructural and human development initiatives. To his credit, he has sponsored and co-sponsored nearly 50 bills aimed at improving the lives of Nigerians.
“Equally, in terms of projects and interventions, his achievements are remarkable, which include sponsorship of the bill for the establishment of the North West Development Commission,” said Mr Tukur-Gadanya.
The group said Barau also sponsored the bill establishing the Federal University of Science and Technology, Kabo, and the upgrading of the Federal College of Education, Kano, to a university.
