Speaker of the Anambra House of Assembly, Somotochukwu Udeze, has lauded Governor Charles Soludo for appointing Catholic bishop Matthew Kukah as chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam.

Mr Udeze said that the appointment of an eminent Nigerian and notable Catholic priest as COOU chancellor, situated in Anambra East LGA, was an honour to the institution. This was disclosed in a statement on Thursday.

Mr Udeze, in felicitating Kukah on his appointment, described it as meritorious. He noted that Mr Soludo’s unwavering efforts in taking education to the next level in the state led to the choice.

The speaker, who is an alumnus of the university, expressed confidence in the intellectual ability and contributions of Kukah in diverse spheres of human endeavour.

Mr Udeze said the bishop’s moral beliefs would foster genuine academic and moral excellence at the university. He urged the COOU community to leverage the first-class appointment of Mr Kukah to grow and develop the university in all ramifications.

The politician urged the citadel of learning to also create an enabling environment for the chancellor to showcase his intellectual prowess.

Mr Udeze also commended the governor for appointing renowned administrator Peter Onwualu as pro-chancellor and chairman of the governing council of COOU.

He said that the combination of Messrs Kukah and Onwualu in the management of the university will really change the university’s worldview and status for the better.
