The police command in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has called on the leadership of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) to streamline the issuance of its identity cards.

The FCT Police Commissioner, Ahmed Sanusi, made the call on Thursday in Abuja when a delegation from the PCRC, led by its national chairman, Ibraheem Olaniyan, paid him a courtesy visit.

Mr Sanusi said the call was imperative to ensure that the PCRC platform was not used to perpetrate actions that could negatively impact the image of the committee.

“I want to use this opportunity to call on the leadership of the PCRC to educate its members on the issue of identity cards and other documents that makes one a member of the committee.

“This will curb the proliferation of fake identities and the misuse of the PCRC platform to perpetrate actions inimical to the image of the committee.

“You can streamline the issuance of documentation that qualifies anyone to be a member of the PCRC and do a little profiling to ensure that criminals are not admitted into the committee,” he said.

The CP noted that the PCRCis a very powerful organ which the force rated highly.

He commended the leadership of the committee for donating 250 litres of fuel to the newly created Violent Crimes Response Unit (VCRU) of the command to enhance its operations.

“I am indeed overwhelmed by your show of love and generosity. This is a product of your belief in our commitment to ensure that we have a safe and more secured society.

“Your generosity will go a long way to assist us and we are not going to let you down,” he said.

Mr Sanusi explained that the establishment of the VCRU was in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Olatunji Disu.

Earlier, the PCRC national chairman said the visit and the donation of the 250 litres of fuel to the newly established VCRU were to support and identify with the initiatives of the I-G.

“As delegation from the PCRC National Headquarters, we are here to show our support with 250 litres of fuel for the takeoff of the new unit.

“We will continue to monitor what they are doing and subsequently offer more support to them and identify with the personnel in the new unit,” he said.
