Agege monarch hails return of environmental sanitation in Lagos

The Olu of Agege, Oba Kamila Isiba, on Saturday commended the return of the monthly environmental sanitation in Lagos, calling it a fair process that will restore discipline and community pride.
Speaking at his palace, the traditional ruler said the exercise reflects government’s commitment to public health and urged residents to embrace it.
He said, “The exercise will help us build a healthier Lagos and strengthen unity among our people. I believe everything will work fine; It is a good initiative and we are happy about it.”
Meanwhile, it was observed that compliance was high in Agege, with residents cleaning homes, shops, and streets. Police also mounted roadblocks to enforce the exercise.
Some residents who spoke during an interview hailed the move.
A trader, Olubunmi Karounwi, called it “long overdue” for healthier living.
“We have been waiting for this; The streets need to be clean and this will help us live healthier lives,” she said
A civil servant, Helen Idowu, described it as a reminder to “take responsibility for our environment.”
On his part, a youth leader, Toheeb Adekoya, stressed community participation to strengthen the process.
He stated, “If everyone joined hands, Agege will be cleaner and safer; I am happy it has started again.”
In the same vein, a resident, Sola Bankole, noted that “clean surroundings mean fewer diseases.”
The monthly sanitation exercise is expected to raise hygiene standards across Lagos State and reinforce public health efforts.
