The Katsina State Police Command has charged operatives of the newly established Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) to uphold professionalism and operate within the ambit of the law.

The state Commissioner of Police, Ali Umar-Fage, made the call in Katsina while addressing personnel of the unit following the completion of a three-day intensive training programme.

He said that the training was organised in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan-Disu.

According to him, the training aimed at strengthening the capacity of the VCRU to effectively respond to violent crimes across the state.

The police commissioner urged them to translate the knowledge acquired during the training into practical field operations, while maintaining the highest standards of discipline and integrity.

He warned against acts of human rights violations, extortion, and other forms of misconduct, stressing that the unit must function strictly within the ambit of the law.

Mr Umar-Fage also emphasised the need for intelligence-driven policing and strong collaboration with communities to enhance crime prevention and response.

The commissioner further called on members of the public to support the police with credible and timely information that would aid prompt and decisive action against criminal elements.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property through a professional, accountable, and people-friendly policing system. (NAN)
