Former Agege council vice-chairman wants to replace Obasa in Lagos assembly

Gbenga Abiola, former vice-chairman of Agege LGA in Lagos, on Sunday declared his intention to contest the Agege Constituency I seat in the 2027 elections.
Mr Abiola, also a former sole administrator of the council, said he had been groomed to succeed Mudashiru Obasa (speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly) if the six-term lawmaker decides not to recontest.
Declaring his ambition in Dopemu, he described Mr Obasa as his benefactor and pledged to run only if the Speaker steps aside in 2027.
“Our leader should be assured I will deliver. APC remains the party to win,” Mr Abiola said.
He promised not to disappoint constituents and to sustain the developmental strides recorded under Obasa’s representation.
“I have been trained enough to fit into this role. I have the experience and have served as a sole administrator. I was the youngest council boss, vice-chairman and secretary in Lagos,” said Mr Abiola. “I feel the people’s pain and have supported many through my foundation. The result is evident here today.”
He urged his supporters to remain loyal to Mr Obasa and follow party directives for the 2027 elections.
