Several groups, including the Joint Action for Good Governance, endorsed Dele Oshinowo’s bid for the House of Representatives in Kosofe on Sunday.

They urged the former Agboyi-Ketu LCDA chairman to contest on the platform of the All Progressives Congress in the next general elections.

The endorsement followed a consultative meeting in Agboyi-Ketu, attended by stakeholders, residents and grassroots mobilisers.

Groups present included the Kosofe Muslim Awareness Forum, Coalition of Asalatu Groups, JAGG and Aseoluwa Cooperative Society.

Abdulwahid Odunuga, JAGG’s national vice-president and convener of the endorsement, said Mr Oshinowo’s record justified the decision.

“Oshinowo’s developmental strides and humanitarian initiatives have redefined governance at the grassroots level. I was once a critic, but his performance changed my perception of local government leadership,” he added.

Mr Odunuga said Mr Oshinowo impacted education, healthcare, infrastructure and empowerment programmes across Agboyi-Ketu. He, however, urged the aspirant to address water challenges if elected to the National Assembly.

“Water remains a major challenge. We expect him to facilitate a sustainable solution for residents,” he said.

Ibrahim Kajola, president of Kosofe Muslim Awareness Forum, also backed the endorsement.

“Oshinowo has shown capacity and commitment. We call on constituents to rally behind his aspiration,” Mr Kajola said.

Adekunle Aderibigbe, JAGG’s secretary, described the former chairman’s leadership style as inclusive.

“His open-door policy encouraged engagement and constructive criticism, strengthening governance and policy implementation,” Mr Aderibigbe said.

He noted Mr Oshinowo was consistently ranked among the top-performing council chairmen in Lagos.

Mr Aderibigbe said his track record justified calls for his election to the House of Representatives.

Responding, Mr Oshinowo thanked the groups for their confidence and support.

“I am grateful for this overwhelming endorsement. It reflects the trust and belief the people have in our leadership,” he said.

He highlighted achievements recorded during his tenure as council chairman.

“We delivered housing, empowerment programmes, classrooms, healthcare facilities and sports infrastructure for community development,” Mr Oshinowo said.
