President Donald Trump, on Monday, called for the sack of Jimmy Kimmel, the late-night show host, who called his wife, Melania Trump, an expectant widow, a day before another attempt on his life failed.

In a post on Truth Social on Monday, Mr Trump railed against Mr Kimmel, saying, “Jimmy Kimmel should be immediately fired by Disney and ABC.”

“I appreciate that so many people are incensed by Kimmel’s despicable call to violence, and normally would not be responsive to anything that he said but, this is something far beyond the pale,” Mr Trump said.

Rehashing Mr Kimmel’s joke in which the first lady was called an expectant widow, Mr Trump said, “Jimmy Kimmel, who is in no way funny as attested to by his terrible Television Ratings, made a statement on his Show that is really shocking.”

He added, “He showed a fake video of the First Lady, Melania, and our son, Barron, like they were actually sitting in his studio, listening to him speak, which they weren’t, and never would be. He then stated, “Our First Lady, Melania, is here. Look at Melania, so beautiful. Mrs. Trump, you have a glow like an expectant widow.””

The American president further said, “A day later a lunatic tried entering the ballroom of the White House Correspondents Dinner, loaded up with a shotgun, handgun, and many knives. He was there for a very obvious and sinister reason.”

Armed with a shotgun, a handgun, and multiple knives, Cole Tomas Allen fired at a federal official during the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner at the Washington Hilton on Saturday night, disrupting the event.

Though he could not access the ballroom where Mr Trump and Vice President JD Vance were seated, the duo were swiftly evacuated from the venue by Secret Service agents.

Appearing before the court on Monday, Mr Allen was hit with three charges, including attempting to assassinate Mr Trump, a charge that could attract a life imprisonment penalty.
