Scores of residents were killed after terrorists invaded Guyaku and Telabala communities in Gombi LGA of Adamawa on Sunday.

The attack followed a violent raid on Mayo Ladde in the Hong local council.

Governor Umaru Fintiri, who visited the scene on Monday to assess the situation, described the attack as heartbreaking.

“My heart breaks for the people of Guyaku in Gombi LGA. Today, I stood on the ground where our brothers and sisters were cruelly taken from us. This act of cowardice is an affront to our humanity and will not go unpunished,” said the Adamawa governor.

While commiserating with victims of the attack, Mr Fintiri assured residents that the government and security agencies were on top of the situation and would ensure their protection.

“To the bereaved families: Adamawa mourns with you. To the attackers: justice is coming. We are intensifying security operations immediately to restore peace and ensure every resident feels safe in their home again. We will rebuild, and we will remain resilient,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant has claimed responsibility for the killings.

A report by Reuters stated that the terrorist organisation confirmed attacking the communities in a statement on Telegram on Monday.
