2027: Tinubu endorses Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat’s governorship ambition

President Bola Tinubu has endorsed the 2027 governorship ambition of Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat.
Mr Tinubu gave the endorsement during a meeting with members of Lagos’ Governance Advisory Council at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Wednesday.
In a statement on X, presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga said, “President Tinubu formally endorses the Lagos APC consensus governorship candidate Obafemi Hamzat at a meeting with members of the Lagos Governance Advisory Council, led by the Prince Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.”
The president’s decision came days after Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu endorsed Mr Hamzat as his preferred successor, describing him as prepared and capable of leading the state.
“It was unanimous with all of us to say that Mr Deputy Governor is a man who is fit and well-prepared for this job. He is a man who knows where all the rooms in the house are,” Mr Sanwo-Olu stated.
Highlighting Mr Hamzat’s experience and working relationship with him over the past years, Mr Sanwo-Olu appreciated Mr Tinubu for the opportunity given to them to serve the state.
“We thank our father, our leader, Mr President, who saw the vision. That long run is what is already being manifested here today,” he added.
Mr Tinubu’s endorsement of Mr Hamzat signalled a significant step within the Lagos All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections.
