Ambode congratulates Obafemi Hamzat as APC governorship consensus candidate, backs Tinubu’s reelection

A former Lagos State Governor, Akinwumi Ambode, has congratulated Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat on his emergence as consensus governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress.
In a statement on Thursday, Mr Ambode described Mr Hamzat’s emergence as a reflection of his loyalty, hard work and dedication to the ruling APC over the past two decades.
“I join my fellow members of the All Progressives Congress to congratulate Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat on his emergence as the consensus governorship candidate of our great party, the APC. I am sure that our state will benefit immensely from your wealth of experience and skills in governance,” the politician stated.
Mr Ambode further declared support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election and expressed confidence in the president’s vision and aspirations for Lagos State and Nigeria in general.
He added, “As I congratulate Dr Hamzat on his adoption, I restate my unshakeable commitment to support the re-election of President Bola Tinubu. I firmly believe that the greater prosperity of Lagos and indeed Nigeria is firmly tied to the continued governance of Mr President.”
The former governor said the Lagos State APC was determined to deliver three million votes for Mr Tinubu in the 2027 elections and support other states in the South-West to deliver greater results.
On Wednesday, Mr Tinubu endorsed Mr Hamzat as the Lagos APC governorship standard bearer, signalling a significant step within the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Meanwhile, a governorship aspirant, Abdul-Azeez Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, dropped his ambition following Tinubu’s endorsement of Mr Hamzat, pledging to stay and work for the party in the forthcoming 2027 general elections.
