Solomon Adeola, chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, has praised workers in Ogun for their resilience and contributions to national development.

Mr Adeola, in a statement issued to mark the 2026 Workers’ Day celebrations in Abeokuta, also commended President Bola Tinubu and Governor Dapo Abiodun for initiating labour-friendly policies.

The senator described workers as the driving force behind growth in education, healthcare, agriculture, commerce, public service and industry across the state.

“You are the hands that teach our children, heal our sick, trade in our markets, keep our civil service running, and power our factories in Agbara, Ewekoro and Sagamu,” he said.

The lawmaker commended workers for their patience and sacrifice amid ongoing economic adjustments.

He cited the signing of the 2024 National Minimum Wage Amendment Act, which raised the national minimum wage to N70,000 and introduced a three-year review cycle as a good gesture from the federal government.

According to him, the federal government’s duty suspension and other stabilisation policies are easing the burden of economic reforms on working families.

The senator also commended Mr Abiodun for approving a minimum wage of N77,000 for state workers, exceeding the national benchmark.

He noted that the state government’s commitment to prompt implementation and sustained engagement with organised labour demonstrated strong support for workers’ welfare.

“As your senator, I have continued to support policies and appropriations that make work rewarding, including investments in vocational training, MSME credit, infrastructure, healthcare and education,” Mr Adeola said.

According to him, Nigerians’ labour must translate into tangible prosperity, especially for workers and their families.
