Three in court over alleged forgery of documents  

The court ordered remand of the defendants at the Kuje Correctional Centre, pending perfection of their bails.

The police in Abuja on Tuesday, arraigned three men before an FCT High Court in Lugbe, over alleged forgery.

The defendants are Ifeanyi Oguejiofor, Emeka Nnayelugo, and Chibuzor Chinweuba.

The trio are standing trial on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy and forgery.

They each, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Gordy Uche (SAN), alleged that the defendants conspired to forge documents with intent to defraud.

They were alleged to have forged documents such as authority to sale, power of attorney and special resolution, all purportedly emanating from Banuel International Company Ltd on August 22, 2016.

He alleged that the defendants forged the said documents, with intent that they be relied upon as genuine, in furtherance of their motive to sell plot 1340 at Jabi, Abuja.

According to him, the forged power of attorney and special Rlresolution, were eventually found in possession of the defendants who were consequently arrested.

The offence contravenes the provisions of sections 97, 364 and 366 of the Penal Code.

The counsel representing the first to third defendants: K.C Akwarandu, T.P Tochukwu SAN, and Onyechi Ononye SAN, respectively moved their applications seeking bail of the defendants.

The prosecutor did not oppose the motion on the basis that the defendants should attend court for trial.

Consequently, Justice Cyprian Agashieze, granted the defendants bail in the sum of five million naira each, with two sureties esch in like sum, who must be public servants of grade level 15 in the FCT.

The court ordered that the sureties must provide their identity card, letter of employment, last promotion and letter of introduction from their heads of department.

He held that the sureties must provide their national Identity cards and their addresses should be verified by the court’s registrar.

The court ordered remand of the defendants at the Kuje Correctional Centre, pending perfection of their bails.

He adjourned the casr until July 13, for hearing.
