A 27-year-old Indian man Rohit Pawar raised eyebrows after he was captured in a video casually standing inside a hospital in the Asian country with a machete lodged deep inside his head. 

In a video posted by CNA, Mr Pawar could be seen calmly pressing his phone as he stood in the reception of the Sion Hospital in Mumbai awaiting to be attended to, leaving visitors and hospital workers in shock.

It was gathered that during a late-night fight on Saturday the victim was struck with a machete.

He, however, remained conscious despite the severe injury and was able to reach the hospital on his own. 

CNA reported that surgeons were eventually able to successfully remove the weapon from Mr Pawar’s skull and was admitted in the intensive care unit of the hospital where his condition was being monitored. 

Results of the victim’s scans showed that the machete plunged nearly 1.5 inches into his brain but luckily missed critical areas of the organ, leaving his speech and motor functions intact. 

“As none of his main brain parts was hit, he was conscious. He was talking fine and also had proper motor skills,” Mid-Day quoted Dr Batuk Diyora, head of neurosurgery department at Sion Hospital. 

Three people were reportedly arrested in connection with the incident that police said stemmed from an old dispute.

“Around 10.15 pm, when the family was about to go to bed, Rohit told me he would hang out with his friends for some time,” the victim’s father Nagnath Pawar recounted.

A week ago, the Peoples Gazette also reported that another Indian man caused a stir after presenting his sister’s skeleton at a bank in the Asian country as proof of ownership to recover her Rs 19,300 ($206) savings. 

The clip showing Mr Pawar sparked reactions online. An Instagram user @cecilia_low wrote, “He is so chill including those around him. Life must be so hard, as long as you are still alive, nothing else matters.”

Another user @chingcnl expressed shock over lack of urgency from hospital staff, commenting “And not one hospital staff(sic) or nurse is attending to him, like everyone else was just walking past him and minding their own business….wow.”

“Indians got some magic going on.. they slash themselves without pain…. Guess they have very high pain tolerance,” @ultradipper stated.
