Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, says his administration is partnering the Blueway Ocean Foundation to tackle open defecation in the state.

Mr Eno stated this while inaugurating six toilet systems and a borehole facility at Community Comprehension Secondary School, Ikot Ekpene Udo, Nsit Ubium, on Thursday.

Represented by the Commissioner for Water and Sanitation, Ubuo Ubuo, Mr Eno said that safe water, sanitation and eradication of open defecation were part of the ARISE Agenda.

“I am announcing the foundation as our official partner in the campaign against open defecation in the state,” Mr Eno said.

Mr Eno commended Blueway Ocean Foundation for its commitment to promoting a healthy and hygienic environment.

The governor said that the toilets and water project were intended to improve students’ health and hygiene.

He said that the state government’s ARISE Golden Initiative for All (GIFA) was delivering water projects across the state.

Mr Eno urged corporate organisations in the state to support similar initiatives as part of their corporate social responsibility.

In his remarks, the Chief Executive Officer of the Blueway Ocean Foundation, Iniodu Ndada, reaffirmed the foundation’s vision of continued service to humanity.

Mr Ndada stated that the government required the support of corporate organisations and wealthy individuals to serve the state better.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Blueway Ocean Foundation, Rehoboth Eno, said that the Eno-led government had demonstrated rare commitment to public service delivery.

Earlier, the principal, Helen Ekong, thanked the foundation for the project, describing it as ‘life-touching’

Mr Ekong said that the school community would ensure proper maintenance culture in the use of the facilities.

The Village Head of Ikot Ekpene Udo, Eteidung Johnson Udousoro, thanked the foundation for the gesture, saying, “This is a life-changing initiative; we are grateful.”
