Anambra assembly screens commissioner nominees

The Anambra House of Assembly on Thursday began screening commissioner nominees submitted by Governor Charles Soludo for confirmation.

The Anambra House of Assembly on Thursday began screening commissioner nominees submitted by Governor Charles Soludo for confirmation.

The exercise began in Awka, with the 18 nominees scheduled to appear in two batches.

Speaker Somtochukwu Udeze said the screening reflected the assembly’s constitutional responsibility.

He said, “Our decision is guided by Section 192(2) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.”

The first batch featured Eddy Ibuzo for Transport and Offornze Amucheazi for Lands. Also screened were BenChuks Odoemena for Agriculture and Chukwukadibia Okoye for Budget and Economic Planning. Others included Vin Ezeaka for Local Government and Clem Aguiyi for Environment.

The list also had Udeoji Amedu for Tourism and Okey Ezeobi for Works.
The second batch will be held on Friday, with 10 nominees expected before lawmakers.

They include Afam Obidike (Health), Law Mefor (Information), and Ekene Ogugua (Education). Others are Chijioke Ojukwu (Physical Planning), Izuchukwu Okafor (Finance), and Casmir Agummadu (Power).

Also listed are Charles Ofoegbu, Petroleum; Esther Onyekesi, Women Affairs; and Patrick Agha-Mba, Sports and Development.

The final nominee is Tobechukwu Nweke for the position of justice and attorney general.

Lawmakers directed all nominees to submit credentials, curriculum vitae, and code-of-conduct documents before screening.
