Three arrested over murder of two alleged motorcycle robbers in Bauchi

The police spokesperson said that the victims were severely beaten by the mob who chased them on motorcycles.

The police in Bauchi State have arrested three suspects involved in a mob attack that led to the deaths of two men in Bumga Hamlet, Warji Local Government Area of the state.

The victims, Kabir Idris, 30, and Ibrahim Danliti, 40, were reportedly riding motorcycles when they were chased by a mob from Ningi LGA shouting “thieves, thieves” on May 7, according to the police spokesperson, Nafiu Habib.

“On the same date at about 1150hrs, the command received a distress call regarding a mob attack in Bunga Hamlet, Dagu Ward, Warji LGA, which resulted in the death of Kabiru Idris, male, aged 30 years, and Ibrahim Samaila Danliti, male, aged 40 years, both of Gabanga Village via Warji LGA,” he said.

He stated that the victims were severely beaten by the mob after being chased on motorcycles.

“They were subsequently rushed to General Hospital, Warji, by police operatives. Unfortunately, they were confirmed dead by a medical doctor,” Mr Habib said.

Mr Habib said the suspects were arrested during an intelligence-led operation. He identified them as Samaila Turawa of Gwada, Danbaba Haruna of Gwada, and Ubale Mai Kaji of Ningi.

“The suspects are currently in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Bauchi, and are assisting with ongoing investigations. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the mob,” he added.

Mr Habib said that no individual or group had the right to take the life of another person extrajudicially, noting that normalcy had been restored in the area.
