The Nigeria Customs Service has paraded and handed over an officer to its police unit after he was caught in a viral video allegedly demanding a N200,0000 bribe from a motorist along the Lagos-Benin Expressway.

In a video shared on X, on Friday, the Controller of the Federal Operations Unit, Zone A, Lagos State, Hussaini Abdullahi, handed over the erring officer to the police for further investigation and disciplinary proceedings.

Mr Abdullahi said, “The Service wishes to reiterate that officers found culpable of violating the ethical standard will be subjected to appropriate sanctions without compromise.

“On behalf of the Comptroller, Federal Operations, Zone A, G.I Alyu, I hereby hand over the officer to the head of Customs Police Unit in Zone A, for further investigation and other necessary action.”

On her part, the Assistant Provost Marshal, Funere Williams-Ebi, assured that the Customs Police Unit, in line with the directive and mandate of the unit, would ensure a thorough probe of the matter.

The disciplinary action was in response to the viral video which showed the motorist secretly using his AI Meta glasses to record how the officer accused him of being liable for outstanding vehicle document payments since 2018.

The motorist pointed out that previous officers had cleared him with the same documents, but the officer insisted he must report to their office to retrieve his car key.

The officer, in response to the motorist’s pleas for an amicable resolution of the matter, said, “Go and bring N200,000,” to which the motorist however replied, “I kill somebody?”
