Bandits kill villager, abduct another in fresh Kwara attack

Suspected bandits have killed one resident identified as YabaNna Yahaya and kidnapped another during a midnight attack on Tsaragi in the Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State.
A community source said the assailants invaded Mr Yahaya’s residence around 1:30am on Saturday, adding that the deceased residence was targeted.
“They (bandits) stormed his residence in the middle of the night. He was shot as one other person abducted and taken to the bush. We aren’t sure yet what the reason might be,” the source stated.
He added that the incident threw the entire community into panic, as residents continued to demand urgent action against insecurity from the government.
Contacted for comment on the incident, the state police spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said she was in transit and could not immediately provide details about the incident.
“I am travelling at the moment. I will attend to you immediately I am less busy,” Ms Ejire-Adeyemi stated.
Killings and kidnappings for ransoms have turned several communities in Kwara North and Kwara South to danger zones.
Residents keep fleeing some of the affected communities, thereby exposing the urgent need for the state government to rethink its strategies to safeguard lives and property.
