The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has urged his loyalists and political associates to remain united and not allow personal ambitions to derail their collective goals ahead of the 2027 elections.

The governor tasked all party members and his loyalists with staying united to ensure Oyo State’s development beyond 2027.

According to a statement issued on Saturday by Dr Suleimon Olanrewaju, the governor’s special adviser on media, Mr Makinde made the remarks on Friday while hosting political stakeholders and appointees to a dinner at his Kolapo Ishola residence in Ibadan.

Mr Makinde said that only 51 elective posts would be contested in the general elections out of a population of about 10 million in the state.

“Apart from the positions at the local government levels, the elective positions for the 2027 general elections are 51. So these posts can only be taken by a few people who would need the generality of the people to succeed,” he said.

He called on all party leaders, stakeholders, and especially candidates and aspirants for different elective offices in 2027 to stick together to continue the good works started by his administration in 2019.

Mr Makinde said that the people of Oyo State have tasked him and his team with selecting a credible group of people who can continue the good works his government has been doing.

He said, “It is only through continued unity and the success of the team that the people of the state can continue to reap the benefits of the administration.

“So, I just want to appeal that this team must be together, and it must continue the good work we have started for the benefit of the people of Oyo state.”

The meeting was attended by his deputy, Mr Bayo Lawal; Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Mr Debo Ogundoyin; and members of the state executive cabinet.

Also present at the dinner was the member representing Ibadan South-West/Ibadan North-West in the House of Representatives, Mr Adedeji Olajide, political appointees, associates and leaders, among others.
