The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has apprehended a truck driver who allegedly caused the death of a pedestrian and a motorcyclist on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, said this in a statement on Sunday in Lagos.

The statement was signed by the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment of LASTMA, Taofiq Adebayo.

Mr Bakare-Oki described as regrettable the accident that occurred at Iyana-Iba Flyover near Lagos State University, Ojo.

According to Mr Bakare-Oki, preliminary findings showed that the fully-loaded truck was speeding from Volkswagen inward Badagry, knocked down a pedestrian and failed to stop.

“A motorcyclist, accompanied by another sympathiser, pursued the fleeing truck driver, and was killed after the driver rammed into the motorcycle, while the accompanying person escaped unhurt.

“Operatives of the LASTMA Night Gang Surveillance and Monitoring Patrol Team deployed along the Badagry Expressway corridor evacuated the deceased motorcyclist trapped beneath the front tyre of the bucket truck,” he said.

The LASTMA boss said that the driver was handed over to the police at Okokomaiko as well as  Federal Road Safety Corps officers for further investigation.

Mr Bakare-Oki condoled with the victims’ families, warning against reckless driving and reaffirming LASTMA’s commitment to enforcing traffic regulations and improving road safety
