Shooting Stars edge Barau FC 1-0 to fortify CAF ambition

Shooting Stars Sports Club(3SC) of Ibadan secured a crucial 1-0 victory over Barau Football Club in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 37 on Sunday.
The game played at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan, gave 3SC the three vital points as the season approaches its climax.
The only goal of the encounter came in the 41st minute through Lucky Emmanuel. The forward capitalised on a well-timed opportunity to put the hosts ahead before the break. His strike proved decisive as both sides battled for control in the second half.
Barau FC pushed for an equaliser after the interval, but Shooting Stars’ defence held firm to preserve the lead.
The home side managed the game effectively, limiting the visitor’s attacking chances and maintaining their shape until the final whistle.
With the result, Shooting Stars now occupy third position on the NPFL table with 60 points from 37 games. The win keeps them firmly in contention for continental qualification with one away match left to play in the campaign against Niger Tornadoes.
The victory significantly boosts 3SC’s chances of playing CAF football next season. Finishing among the top three would secure a spot in either the CAF Champions League or the CAF Confederation Cup, a target the club has been chasing throughout the season.
The league table remains tightly contested at the top. Enugu Rangers lead the chart with 65 points, while Rivers United sit second with 64 points after 37 games. Both clubs are in a tight race for the title, making the final matchday decisive.
Ikorodu City FC follow closely in fourth position with 58 points from 37 games. A slip from Shooting Stars could open the door for Ikorodu to overtake them, making the final day’s results critical for all teams in the top half.
