Three scavengers arraigned for allegedly receiving stolen tool to drill Abuja borehole

Three scavengers were on Wednesday docked in a Life Camp Magistrate’ Court in Abuja for allegedly receiving a stolen tool for borehole drilling, worth N1.9millon.
The police charged Usman Abubakar, 40; Nura Lawal, 21 and Nura Umar, 20 with criminal conspiracy and receiving stolen property.
However, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Prosecution Counsel, Charity Nwachukwu, told the court that the complainant, Tunde Jegede of B39, Citech Estate Life camp, Abuja, reported the matter at Life camp police station on April 27.
Ms Nwachukwu said on April 27, the defendants conspired and bought one ”Hammer” from one Pausat Dapus, the guard attached to the Citech company.
Mr Nwachukwu said during the police investigation that the defendants made confessional statement and the stolen property was recovered.
She said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 97, and 317 of the Penal Code.
Magistrate Best Ojukwu admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N200,000 and one surety each in like sum.
Ms Ojukwu ordered that the sureties must reside within the court jurisdiction and provide reliable means of identification.
She adjourned the matter until July 7 for hearing. (NAN)
