Makinde declares interest in 2027 presidency as PDP, APM sign pact

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has declared his interest to contest the 2027 presidency, after signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) to run on its platform.
Mr Makinde announced his presidential bid at a joint mega rally of the Taminu Turaki-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Ibadan on Thursday.
“I, Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, Excellency, announce my candidacy for the position of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Mr Makinde said.
The governor earlier led the Oyo State chapter of the PDP led by Mr Turaki’s faction to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the APM as part of a strategic alliance for the forthcoming elections.
According to the agreement, candidates of the Turaki-led PDP faction in Oyo State loyal to Mr Makinde who are contesting governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and state assembly seats are expected to run on the platform of the APM rather than the PDP in the 2027 elections.
The PDP has been embroiled in a prolonged leadership crisis culminating into legal cases yet to be resolved.
