A polytechnic student has been chased to his death allegedly by police officers. The deceased was reported to be a student of the Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku.

A vigilante also died in the hot chase.

“Investigation is ongoing,” the NPF Complaint Response Unit disclosed this on Friday, in a post on X, in response to a post on Thursday, by human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu.

According Mr Gwamnishu, the hunter, alongside some police officers, allegedly chased the student for a yet-to-be-ascertained offence, until the student and the hunter, both fell into a well, afterwhich their lifeless bodies were brought out.

Mr Gwamnishu stated, “Today (Thursday), a tragic incident involving a Ogwashi-Uku Polytechnic student and a civilian Nigeria Police, Area Command Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State.

“Police officers alongside a civilian hunter allegedly chased a student without considering the dangers around the environment. Unknown to the young man, there was an open well filled with water. He fell inside, and the hunter chasing him also fell into the same well. Sadly, both were brought out dead.”

The police command confirmed the fatal pursuit to the People Gazette on Friday.

Police commissioner Yemi Oyeniyi said the officers involved in the chase had been identified.

Spokesman for the command in Delta, Bright Edafe, told The Gazette more details would be provided on the matter.
