Fire guts eight-storey building in Kwara community

An inferno on Sunday gutted part of an eight-storey building in Omoda, Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The spokesperson for the state Fire Service, Hakeem Adekunle, confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday.
He said, “The incident occurred at about 10:30 a.m. at No. 6 Kutashi Compound, Omoda, involving a building comprising about eight bedroom flats. Only one room was affected before the fire was contained.”
He stated that preliminary findings indicated that the fire was triggered by a power surge, which ignited combustible materials in the affected room.
Mr Adekunle stated that firefighters arrived at the scene shortly after receiving the emergency call and were able to bring the situation under control.
He added that the situation was prevented from a major structural loss to the building and adjoining property in the Ilorin West Local Government Area of the state.
Mr Adekunle noted that delays or attempts to extinguish fires without professional support often worsened damage.
He advised the public to contact emergency responders immediately at the onset of any fire outbreak.
He stressed that quick reporting remains critical to saving lives and property.
