The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) has inducted 157 graduates of medicine and dentistry from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State.

The oath-taking was performed on Monday by the Registrar of MDCN, Fatima Kyari, at the Oduduwa Hall, Ile-Ife.

Mrs Kyari, represented by Tijani Mandaka, Head of Department (HOD), Medical Registration, MDCN, Abuja, warned the inductees against violating the ethics of the medical profession.

She charged the inductees to adhere to the tenets of integrity and professionalism, and to exercise caution at all times while discharging their duties.

Earlier, Bernice Adegbehingbe, Provost, College of Health Sciences, congratulated the inductees for their outstanding academic performance.

The provost said the institution is committed to merit, integrity, and fairness in its admission and training processes.

Ms Adegbehingbe urged the inductees to uphold professionalism, compassion, diligence, and integrity.

She described medicine and dentistry as sacred callings dedicated to serving humanity.

Ms Adegbehingbe appealed to parents, alumni, and well-wishers to support the college’s proposed Computer-Based Test Learning and Resource Centre, estimated at N350 million.

The provost appreciated the management of Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC), faculty members, and parents for their support towards the training of the graduands.

Speaking, John Okeniyi, Chief Medical Director of Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC), admonished the inductees to prioritise compassion and humanity in practice.

Mr Okeniyi described the induction as a transition from students to professionals, charging the graduands to embrace resilience, innovation, and teamwork in addressing emerging health challenges.

Similarly, the OAU Vice-Chancellor, Adebayo Bamire, urged the inductees to embrace the future of healthcare with courage, compassion, and humility.

Mr Bamire counselled them on selfless service to humanity and the need to uphold the ethics of the medical profession at all times.
