A former Kwara Central lawmaker, Ibrahim Oloriegbe, says he is still in the race to secure the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress and will contest in party’s primary scheduled for Friday (today).

“My attention has been drawn to insinuations circulating in some quarters over the last few days suggesting that I have either stepped down from the 2027 governorship race or endorsed the candidature of another candidate.

“I wish to state clearly and unequivocally that there is no truth whatsoever in such claims. I remain fully in the race for the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress and have neither withdrawn my aspiration nor endorsed any aspirant,” Mr Oloriegbe said in a statement on Friday.

Mr Oloriegbe’s clarification followed claims by the Kwara governor’s senior special adviser on communications, Ibrahim Abdullateef, on Tuesday that Mr Oloriegbe and others had stepped down for Yahaya Seriki, who was on Tuesday endorsed by Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq as his preferred successor ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“With the rescheduling of the party’s governorship primary election to this morning, I hereby call on all my supporters, delegates, and progressive-minded members of our great party across the state to come out en masse to vote for my candidacy.

“I also urge everyone to remain peaceful, orderly, and law-abiding throughout the exercise. Our strength as progressives lies in our commitment to democracy, fairness, and unity of purpose,” Mr Oloriegbe added.
