Troops kill two suspected bandits in Taraba, recover AK-47 rifle

Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade, Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke, have killed two suspected bandits and recovered an AK-47 rifle during a tactical operation in Donga Local Government Area of Taraba State.
This was disclosed by Umar Mohammed, the acting spokesperson of the 6 Brigade, in a statement on Monday.
He said the operation was carried out on May 24, 2026.
“The operation was carried out on 24 May 2026 following the receipt of credible intelligence reports of gunshots heard in a forest near the “Welcome to Donga” signpost in Akate District, Donga Local Government Area (LGA),” he said.
According to him, acting swiftly on the intelligence report, the troops mobilised to the area and conducted a tactical raid.
Mr Mohammed stated that upon arrival at the scene, the troops encountered suspected armed assailants and engaged them in a gun duel.
He added that during the exchange, two of the suspected criminals were neutralised.
“Items recovered from the operation included one AK-47 rifle, five rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, two AK-47 magazines, two mobile phones, and other personal items,” he said.
The commander of the battalion, Chukwuemeka Akaliro, commended the troops for their swiftness and professionalism.
He urged the troops to sustain the operational momentum in line with the directive of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) to eliminate all forms of criminality across the state.
He further assured residents of Taraba State that the brigade remains firmly committed to pursuing criminals and sustaining pressure on them until all threats to peace and security are completely eliminated.
