Sowore emerges AAC 2027 presidential candidate, steps down as national chairman

Human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, has emerged as the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), and stepped down as its national chairman.
Mr Sowore, during the primary, secured the ticket after delegates and party leaders unanimously endorsed him, and subsequently presented him with the party’s flag.
In his acceptance speech on Tuesday, Mr Sowore, who vowed to curb corruption, insecurity, and poor governance, however, mocked President Bola Tinubu, for polling over 10 million votes at the All Progressives Congress’ presidential primary.
He said, “There is no way APC can have 10 million people as members. I can guarantee you that APC cannot boast of 10,000 members.”
The AAC, also in a statement, after the primary, announced Samuel Ajeigbe, as the party’s new national chairman, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party said on X, “Omoyele Sowore has officially stepped down as the National Chairman of the African Action Congress. The party hereby welcomes Samuel Ajeigbe as the new National Chairman of our great party.”
