The Dangote Group has commended the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) for the impact of its safety system gap analysis conducted on its cement transport operations.

The FRSC public education officer (CPEO), Osondu Ohaeri, made this known in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja.

The safety system gap analysis on Dangote cement transport operations was conducted in September 2025.

Mr Ohaeri said that the Dangote Group gave the commendation when the head of transport of the company, Murillo Silva, paid a courtesy visit to the corps marshal, Mohammed Shehu, at the FRSC national headquarters.

He said Mr Silva lauded the FRSC for its professionalism and strategic recommendations that had transformed the company’s transport safety operations and led to a significant reduction in its truck crashes nationwide.

According to him, the FRSC and Dangote Group share a common vision on what must be done to make the transport sector safer, and the partnership is already producing measurable results.

“The intervention by FRSC has repositioned the Dangote fleet towards becoming a model for fleet management and road safety compliance across the continent,” he said.

He noted that the gap analysis revealed critical operational lapses, including speed limit violations, poor driver rest management, overloading, weak safety monitoring systems and high crash exposure linked largely to human factors.

“Following the implementation of the corps’ recommendations, comparative crash data between the first quarter of 2025 and the first quarter of 2026 showed a remarkable improvement in safety performance.

“Statistics presented during the review indicate a drop from 25 cases in the first quarter of 2025 to 11 cases within the same period of 2026. Fatal crashes also declined by 36 per cent, while the number of persons injured reduced by 52 per cent from 89 to 42.

“Most significantly, deaths resulting from crashes dropped by 60 per cent from 35 recorded deaths in 2025 to 14 in 2026,” he said.

Reacting to the development, the corps marshal described the outcome as a clear demonstration that strategic partnerships, data-driven interventions and institutional collaboration remained critical to improving road safety and saving lives.

He commended the Dangote management for embracing professional scrutiny and implementing key safety reforms.

“Sustained compliance with the recommendations can position the company as one of the safest fleet operators in Africa,” he said.

The statement quoted Mr Shehu as urging other fleet operators and transport companies to emulate the Dangote example by adopting proactive safety measures capable of reducing crashes and improving operational standards on Nigerian roads.
