The police command in Ogun says it has arrested a father and son for theft. Oluseyi Babaseyi, the command’s spokesperson, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.

Mr Babaseyi explained that the command also recovered four firearms, one live cartridge and a stolen phone valued at N180,000.

The police spokesperson said operatives of the Afon Division arrested a father and son over an alleged theft and illegal possession of firearms.

The police alleged that the son stole a Tecno phone from a residential apartment on May 8.

According to the statement, operatives tracked and recovered the phone following credible intelligence.

Mr Babaseyi stated that a search warrant executed at the suspects’ residence led to the recovery of a locally made pistol and a Dane gun. He added that the suspects remained in custody while the investigation continued to determine possible accomplices.

The spokesperson further said operatives of Ilisan-Remo Division recovered a locally fabricated pistol and one live cartridge during a patrol on Wednesday.

He explained that the firearm was discovered abandoned at the Ilisan-Remo roundabout and secured by the patrol team.

Mr Babaseyi said an investigation had commenced to trace the origin and ownership of the recovered weapon. He also disclosed that operatives of the Ode-Remo Division arrested a 25-year-old man for allegedly stealing a Dane gun.

According to him, the suspect gained access to the complainant’s residence as a carpenter’s assistant engaged for renovation work.

Mr Babaseyi said the suspect later confessed to the offence and admitted membership of the Aye confraternity. He added that the suspect claimed the firearm had been modified for concealment purposes.

The officer said all cases had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.
