The Hard Rock Stadium is another venue in the United States that will host matches during the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America. It will be officially known as the Miami Stadium throughout the tournament, per FIFA protocol.

FIFA requires stadiums to drop their corporate or sponsorship names during World Cup tournaments to protect its official sponsors and prevent unauthorised brand exposure.

Fifteen of the 16 stadiums billed to host matches at the World Cup will have their names changed.

The Hard Rock Stadium is a multi-purpose facility located in Miami Gardens, Florida. It is famously known as the home of the National Football League franchise, the Miami Dolphins.

The Miami Hurricanes, the University of Miami’s American football team, also play their games at the venue.

Hard Rock is owned by Stephen Ross, a businessman and the owner of the Miami Dolphins. Construction of the stadium began in December 1985 and was completed two years later, at a cost of $115 million.

It features a semi-retractable roof over the seating areas (not the field), providing better sun and rain protection while maintaining an open-air feel. Spaces inside the stadium also include the Bodega lounge, theatre box, and 72 living room boxes.

The 64,767-capacity stadium has hosted significant tournaments, including the Super Bowl (six times), two Baseball World Series, Copa America matches, as well as the final and several matches during the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

Since 2022, the grounds of Hard Rock Stadium have also hosted the Miami International Autodrome, a temporary racing circuit used for Formula One’s Miami Grand Prix and venue for the Miami Open since 2019.

The record attendance at the stadium was 80,120 people who graced the 2013 BCS National Championship Game, followed by 67,498 who attended Game 6 of the 1997 World Series.

Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, and U2 are among the famous musicians who have hosted concerts at the venue.

In August 2016, Hard Rock Cafe Inc paid a whopping $250 million to secure the naming rights to the stadium for 18 years, until 2034. It had previously been known as the Stadium, Dolphin Stadium, Land Shark Stadium, and Sun Life Stadium.

Hard Rock will host multiple World Cup matches, including Saudi Arabia vs Uruguay, Uruguay vs Cape Verde, Scotland vs Brazil and Colombia vs Portugal. It will also stage knockout matches, which include the third-place match.
