The Kebbi Hisbah Board has urged youths to seek Islamic knowledge from qualified scholars and from primary sources such as the Qur’an and Sunnah, and to refrain from any actions that may undermine the dignity of the Islamic act of worship.

The board’s director of Sharia, Judge Surajo Kamba, made the call in a statement following the arrest of some youths in Zuru LGA for wearing Ihram garments and performing mock hajj rituals.

Ihram is the sacred, spiritually pure state a Muslim enters before performing hajj or Umrah.

Mr Kamba said the youths were performing rituals similar to those in Saudi Arabia.

”The individuals were detained and subsequently educated by Hisbah officials on the proper significance of the hajj,” he said, noting that such religious obligations can only be fulfilled at designated times and locations.

Mr Kamba explained that the Hisbah officials counselled them and emphasised the importance of respecting Islamic rites and avoiding actions that could create confusion or diminish the sanctity of religious worship.

”At the end of the counselling, the youths admitted their wrongdoings, expressed remorse, and pledged not to engage in such conduct again. Following their undertaking to maintain good behaviour and adhere to proper Islamic teachings, they were released,” he said.
