Ruto apologises to Northern Kenya over years of marginalisation
President William Ruto has publicly apologised to the people of Northern Kenya for decades of marginalisation.
Speaking in Wajir on Monday, Mr Ruto said that as president and leader of Kenya, he was apologising on behalf of the nation.
“I want to tell you that on behalf of the people of Kenya, today as I stand here as president and leader of our great nation to the people of Kenya, in Northern Kenya for this marginalisation. I want to apologise on behalf of the nation of Kenya,” Mr Ruto said.
According to him, “Pole ni sana ndugu zetu” (we are very sorry, our brothers and sisters).
He added that the marginalisation was never intended, describing the occasion as an emotional moment.
“It was never meant to be this way and, as my brother the governor has said, this has been a very emotional moment for me,” Mr Ruto said.
