Police step up vigilance against thuggery in Yobe

The police command in Yobe says it has stepped up vigilance against the activities of thugs and miscreants in Potiskum LGA of the state. The command’s Spokesman, Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed this in an interview in Damaturu on Tuesday.
He said the proactive initiative followed an alleged attack on Abubakar Ahmadu, a resident of the Arikime area, by a 16-year-old currently in police custody.
The police said Mr Ahmadu, who reported the incident at the Potiskum Divisional Police Station on Monday, stated that the teenager carried out the attack alongside four of his gang members.
The command’s spokesman said the suspected thugs, still at large, were returning from a local cinema when they got into a fight with some youths of New Junction also at the Arikime area.
The statement disclosed that Mr Ahmadu was attempting to end the fight when he was hit on the head, resulting in a serious head injury.
Mr Abdulkarim said the victim had received treatment at the Specialist’s Hospital, Potiskum, while efforts were being made to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
