81 Reps members elect Ugochinyere as minority leader

Eighty one minority members of the House of Representatives have elected Ikeagwuonu Ugochinyere as the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives.
Peoples Gazette on Wednesday obtained a copy of the list of the 81 minority members with their names and signatures on the document announcing Mr Ugochinyere’s emergence.
The letter addressed to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abass, reads, “The above subject refers, please. We the undersigned members of the minority parties of the 10th House of Representatives whose names and signatures appear below wish to communicate our nomination of Hon. Ikeagwuonu Ugochinyere (Ikenga Imo), member representing Ideato North and South Federal Constituency of Imo State as our elected nominee to replace Hon. Chinda Kingsley Ogundu for the position of the Minority Leader in view of his decampment to the All Progressives Congress (APC).”
The letter was signed by 81 lawmakers from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), National Democratic Congress (NDC), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Labour Party (LP), Accord, African People’s Movement (APM), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Mr Ugochinyere’s emergence follows the resignation of the former Minority Leader, Kingsley Chinda, who stepped down from the position after he defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) party.
Mr Abass is expected to announce the nomination of Mr Ugochinyere before the House, and officially declare the lawmaker as the Minority Leader of the House at the next plenary.
Mr Ugochinyere had previously served as senior adviser to the Senate President before he won an election into the House of Representatives.
The lawmaker has since sponsored and moved over than 30 bills, motions and petitions in the Green Chamber.
