Police arrest two Niger suspects over alleged shop breaking, theft

The Niger State police command says it arrested two suspected criminals for alleged shop breaking, theft and receiving stolen property in the Suleja Local Government Area of the state.
The state police spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, made the disclosure in a statement on Thursday.
He said, “On the 31st of May 2026, at about 9:45p.m, another report was received at Maje Division that on 30th May 2026, a complainant who owns a boutique in the Kwamba area, closed her shop around 10p.m.
“The next day it was discovered that the shop had been forcefully broken into by unknown persons who made away with merchandise (clothes, shoes, other items) worth three hundred and sixty thousand naira (#360,000). Later in the day, the complainant saw some of the stolen clothes worn by one ‘Sauban Musa 28 years’ of Kwamba.”
Mr Abiodun added that on the receipt of the information, detective officers swung into action and arrested the suspect who disclosed during interrogation that he purchased the items from a security man attached to the shop.
According to him, the suspect, 50-year-old Sabiu Abubakar is a member of the Suleja Civil Security Corps Vigilance group.
“He was also arrested and while searching his premises, the items stolen from the Boutique were recovered amongst other items which include one military head gear, a stolen handset and other valuables to which he failed to justify ownership,” said Mr Abiodun.
He added that the case was still under investigation after which the suspects would be charged to court for prosecution.
