A 26-year-old man, Kevin Moses, was arraigned before the Kaduna Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday for stealing his girlfriend’s iPhone worth N650,000.

The defendant, who resides in Sabon Tasha, Kaduna, is charged with stealing.

The prosecution counsel, Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence in the Barnawa area of Kaduna on May 31.

The prosecutor said that the defendant, who is the boyfriend of the complainant, Sharon James, stole her iPhone worth N650,000 during a dedication ceremony at his uncle’s house.

The prosecutor said the phone was traced to the buyer, who told the police that the defendant sold it to him.

The offence, according to the prosecutor, contravenes Section 217 of the Kaduna State Penal Code, 2017. Section 217 stipulates a five-year jail term upon conviction.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He ruled that the sureties must show evidence of tax payment to the Kaduna State government and reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

Mr Emmanuel adjourned the case until July 22 for a hearing.
