The police on Wednesday arraigned a 31-year-old housewife, Alimat Jimoh, before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, Oyo State, for allegedly hitting her ex-husband with a charmed ring during a fight over child paternity and custody.

The defendant from the Alakia Isebo area was charged with two counts of breach of peace and assault, to which she pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Olapeju Durodola, said the defendant allegedly conducted herself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by fomenting trouble in the house of her former husband, Wasiu Ebeloku.

Ms Durodola said that the defendant allegedly assaulted Mr Ebeloku by hitting him with a ring purported to be charmed.

She said that the defendant committed the offence on June 5, at about 7:00 p.m., at the Alakia Isebo area, Ibadan.

Ms Durodola said the offence contravened sections 249 (d) and 351 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The chief magistrate, Olabisi Ogunkanmi, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N2.5 million, with two sureties in a like sum.

Ms Ogunkanmi ordered that one of the sureties must be a building owner residing in the house within the jurisdiction.

She, thereafter, adjourned the matter until August 11 for hearing.
